WISTA Australia, Australian Maritime Safety Authority and Nautical Institute Women in Maritime together with 2023 host partner Port of Newcastle, are holding a technical and networking event to promote the IMO’s objective for the International Day for Women in Maritime to recruitment, retention and sustained employment of women in the maritime sector, raise the profile of women in maritime and strengthen maritime industry’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and support work to address the current gender imbalance in maritime.

In terms of supporting work to address current gender imbalance in Australia’s maritime sector, with less 5% female participation onboard Australian vessels and in our port sectors, and slightly better statistics in shore-based roles, we have brought together industry representatives from ports and shipping to share their own unique challenges and initiatives in improving diversity, equity and inclusion. This will include a panel discussion followed by Questions and Answers where it is anticipated all participants can take back to their workplaces greater information, resources and network to continue the momentum towards improving diversity in Australia’s maritime sector.

The event starts at 3:00pm and continues until 6:00pm, with food and drinks to be provided during the event. We hope to see you there.
